Practical AI for K-12 educators, students, and families.
Written by a parent and school board member who builds with AI, for the people who have to make it work on a Tuesday.
The Five Core Principles of Practical AI Policies
-
The most significant risk AI poses to education is not cheating. It is the slow, invisible erosion of critical thinking that happens when people outsource their cognitive work to a machine and nobody notices because the output looks good enough.
-
A blanket "don't use AI" policy doesn't prepare anyone for a world where AI is everywhere. A blanket "use AI for everything" policy erodes the skills that matter most. The answer is teaching people to evaluate the trade-off in every situation.
-
There is a difference between using AI to do the work and using AI to teach the work. Delegation, management, quality review...these are valuable career skills, not just AI skills.
-
AI has no feelings, no opinions, and no loyalty. It is a prediction engine designed to keep you engaged. Students need to understand this before it becomes a problem and develop the ability to recognize and correct it.
-
Children seek authority and assurance. As AI becomes increasingly present in their lives, the technology becomes a significant source of truth. But it's not always right, and can be confidently so. Students need to learn verification skills and where to place their trust.
Start with the toolkit (free)
Every district should have a policy, a framework for teaching it, and a training guide. Here are all three. Free, no form.
Practical AI Framework
The principles and reasoning behind the toolkit. Start here to understand what's in it, why it's different, and how it helps everyone stay ahead.
Policy Template
A board-adoptable document with legal references, governance structures, and grade-band rules. Ready for legal review and board action.
Training Guide
Classroom-ready exercises, parent guidance, self-assessment tools, and professional development modules. Designed so a teacher can use it today.

Three ways to work with Rewire
Lead: your cabinet and your board
A half-day with the cabinet that ends with a plan you own. A district pilot: one department, one semester, the people who do the work.
Cabinet half-day starts at $6,000. Leadership day starts at $9,500. District pilot starts at $12,500. Same price for every district.
Teach: institute days and parent nights
An institute-day session for staff. A parent evening on AI rules for grown-ups and kids, free when it is attached to a staff session.
Institute-day session starts at $1,500 virtual and $3,000 in person. Parent evening $2,500, free when attached.

In the classroom
Rewire teaches the INCubator entrepreneurship program’s AI module at a local high school, live, with students building real things. If you run a program like it, ask.

Why I Built Rewire Education
It feels like we’re all wandering into the collective unknown with AI. The technology is changing at a rapid pace and will have impacts on our communities, careers, and personal lives that we're still learning to understand. There is no textbook to tell us what happens next.
But when it comes to our children, that's no excuse to wait and see. This technology is in their lives, whether we like it or not. Our opinions may vary on the lasting impact of AI, but the present influences, opportunities, and dangers are real and must be addressed.
The answer is not to wait for the definitive resource that tells us what to do. We have incomplete information that changes every day. Instead, we need to start figuring out how we'll think about and manage AI with our children, at school and at home. We are building the use cases in real time. We are making the mistakes and finding what works.
The K-12 Practical AI Toolkit helps schools and communities protect and prepare students, staff, and families for a future with AI. This isn't a perfect or even complete guide. But we can't afford to hesitate. The risks are far too great to just wait and see.
